This is a lovely slab of Petrified Wood also known as Vaquilla Agate. Wood gets buried underground without air, and the organic substance gets replaced by minerals that are beautiful and awesome replications of the tree they've replaced. This one is replaced by Agate, also called Agatized wood.
This piece is really colorful with deep reds, warm orangey yellows and ivory bands. As it also an Agate, you can see banding and lovely patterns and parts of it are translucent. This piece is not polished but does not require polishing, it shows its colors nicely and does not appear rough. It has a matte appearance. Would be good to display as it is or used for lapidary work <3
